Game Boy

"The Game Boy launched in Japan on April 31, 1989. Within two weeks, it has sold through its entire stock of 300,000 units. An American launch followed in July, and managed to sell 40,000 units on its very first day." (Fahs T., 2009) By now, it has accumulated of over 150 millions units all over the world (Nintendo, n.d.) and claimed to be the world's most successful game system. Nearly 20 years ago before the launch of Game Boy, there were numerous of handheld electronic games in the market (Wikipedia, n.d.). Although the price was cheap but they were all single game devices and their quality were poor. So people regarded them as kid's toys. (TheUltimate Console Database, n.d.) When Yokoi, the designer of the original Game Boy was asked to develop the console, he considered it has "to be small, light, inexpensive, and durable, as well as have a varied, recognizable library of games upon its release."(Answers.com, n.d.) He succeeded. Game Boy's features well matched the market's expectation. When Game Boy sold in the market, people fascinated by its high quality, the flexibility and possibility to play hundreds of different games, and so made such glorious sales in Nintendo's history and also the game history.
